Walt Disney Animation Cancels ‘Gigantic’

Gigantic, Walt Disney Animation’s update to the Jack and the Beanstalk story, has been shelved indefinitely due to creative difficulties.

The film, featuring Jack encountering a female giant, was to have been directed by Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nathan Greno (Tangled), with music by Frozen‘s Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.

The studio had scheduled a 2020 release for the film, but according to Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios President Ed Catmull, “it just isn’t working.”

Catmull continues, “With Gigantic, we’ve come to that point, and although it’s a difficult decision, we are ending active development for now.”

Disney said that a new project will take over the Thanksgiving 2020 date, but gave no further details.
