This weekend, The Walt Disney Studios passed the $7 billion mark in global box office for 2018! This is the second time that the studio has crossed that threshold, reaching $7.6 billion in 2016.
The domestic total is currently $2.948 billion and may cross the record 2016 total of $3 billion by the end of the year.
Disney has four out of the top eight releases worldwide, include the top two: Avengers: Infinity War [$2 billion] and Black Panther [$1.35 billion]. Disney also has the top three grossing films in the U.S./Canada: Black Panther [$700 million], Avengers: Infinity War [$678 million], and Incredibles 2 [$608 million].
Disney has held the top spot in both the domestic and global box office annual totals each year since 2015.
Other Disney films in the top 10 domestically are Ant-Man and The Wasp [$216 million] at eighth and Solo: A Star Wars Story [$213 million] at ninth. Incredibles 2 [$1.24 billion] was fourth in the worldwide box office, while Ant-Man and the Wasp [$622.7 million] came in eighth.
With three weeks to go, Disney is still adding to their 2018 totals. Ralph Breaks the Internet has already reached $260 million worldwide and is still in theaters, while Mary Poppins Returns will adding to Disney’s total beginning December 19th.
