A very scary situation happened at the Magic Kingdom around 10:00 PM Thursday evening, when guests thought a shooting had occurred. According to in the moment tweets, evacuations on Main Street, U.S.A. were fully underway and guests were shouting there was an “active shooter.”
We’re happy to report, the Orange County Sheriff’s office has confirmed there was not an active shooter. Instead a fight had broken out and the sounds of popping was merely a balloon. You can see the full tweet below or on their X account here.
We’re thankful to hear everyone was okay during this very scary time at Walt Disney World and appreciative to all the cast members and police officers who ensured guests’ safety.
Disney has issued the following statement regarding the matter.
We appreciate the immediate response of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to quickly assess and clear the situation. Normal operations have resumed and the park is now closed for the evening.
