Magic Kingdom guests will temporarily lose one of the park’s most classic attractions this fall, as the Walt Disney World Railroad is scheduled to close beginning September 28, 2026.
The closure has now appeared on Walt Disney World’s calendar, with the railroad expected to return by the end of October, although Disney has not provided the exact reopening date at this time. Guests visiting Magic Kingdom throughout October will want to keep the temporary closure in mind when making their plans.
Of course, the Walt Disney World Railroad hasn’t exactly been operating normally lately. The Frontierland Station has already been closed as major construction continues in that area of Magic Kingdom. The railroad has instead been operating between Main Street, U.S.A. Station and Fantasyland Station, rather than making its traditional full loop around the park.
Beginning September 28, that modified train service will temporarily stop as well.
There’s an enormous amount of work happening around the railroad these days, particularly as construction moves forward on Piston Peak National Park, the new Cars-inspired area coming to Magic Kingdom. However, this newly scheduled closure is temporary, and the Walt Disney World Railroad is expected to welcome passengers aboard again in late October.
An exact reopening date has not yet been added to Disney’s calendar. As always with Walt Disney World refurbishments, dates can change as work progresses.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on the official Walt Disney World calendar and will share an update as soon as Disney provides a firm reopening date for the Walt Disney World Railroad.
