Hey Disney friends! If you are taking up the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World this Fall season, you are likely in the throes of last-minute arrangements and preparations. It’s a fabulous time to visit, with everything from Fall decorations and Halloween parties to the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival and seasonal treats. Hello, Pumpkin Spice! I’m all about it right now!
While you might have spent months planning every moment of your days in the Disney parks, there are a few mistakes that I see people make year after year that I thought we might all avoid together. So, before you zip up those suitcases, let’s take a look at five things worth remembering for your Fall visit.
1. Ignoring the Weather Report
Yes, my friends, just because Fall is known for cozy sweaters and hot beverages across the rest of the country does not mean you are likely to see this in Florida. Pay close attention to the weather and remember that just as quickly as it can heat up during the day, you can sometimes also need a warmer layer at night. Prepare for the heat because Orlando Mother Nature, well, she has a mind of her own!
2. Not Checking for Party Nights
Even if Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party isn’t on your to-do list this year, you will want to be aware of which nights the party is taking place. Guests without a party ticket and wristband will be asked to leave Magic Kingdom earlier than usual. Every year, this seems to catch someone off guard, so mark those dates down and either plan a Disney Springs dinner that night or choose a different day for your extended Magic Kingdom visit.

3. Overcomplicating Outfits and Party Costumes
You know I love a good Disney dress-up, so take it from me: sometimes taking it too far can ruin the fun. If you are a local to Walt Disney World and can visit anytime, I say go crazy, but if you are visiting from farther away, value your comfort as much as your look. Don’t spend hours straightening curly hair or applying serious makeup that will sweat off before lunchtime. Instead, balance the look with clever details and practical comfort to avoid an early exit due to costume malfunction.
4. Forgetting the Effects of the Sun
Just because summer is technically over by the time you visit doesn’t mean the problems that come along with it are gone as well. Don’t forget to apply and reapply sunscreen to avoid a nasty burn, and stay hydrated so you can get around the parks in optimal form. Trust me from experience, no one wants to be wheeled out in a chair after fainting in Fantasyland. That is one Disney memory I definitely don’t need to recreate!
5. Hurricane Season
Much like the heat, hurricane season is coming into full swing and can still pack a punch when one hits. Now, there are two sides to this one. On one hand, I always recommend having a backup plan and keeping everyone, especially kids, in your party with realistic expectations about what might happen and how you can enjoy the magic another way if needed. On the other, I always say don’t be put off by this time of year. On so many occasions, we have seen predictions for terrible, park-closing weather during our stay and luckily, not once has it come to fruition. Stay smart and have a backup plan, but keep an open mind.
And there you have it, my fellow Disney friends! A few simple things to keep in mind can make a huge difference to your Fall vacation.
