You may not believe this, but I’ve only been riding a Disney attraction that broke down once. It was Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in the Magic Kingdom and the wildest ride in the wilderness came to a halt about halfway up its most significant outside incline. Of course, me being me, I sat there freaking out about how they were going to get us out of there as the train was sitting at such a steep angle. I worried until a cast member came over to instruct us on what to do, which, as we all know, doesn’t help anything.
The funniest part about it is that I was worried about the incline, while the distance from the ride vehicle to where we had to step down wasn’t a step for me because I’m so short, it was a jump. Of course, I was wearing my trusty flip-flops and stubbed a few of my toes pretty bad, so straight to First Aid was where I headed after we were escorted to a very cool walkway underneath the attraction. That leads me to the point I want to talk about today.
If I could’ve had a choice of where to stop, it totally would’ve been near the little Western town. Even though you aren’t allowed to take photos, just to walk close by would’ve been really cool. Now, you’re probably all thinking that I’ve lost my mind because we obviously cannot control when or where an attraction breaks down, but a girl can dream.
Another spot I’ve always thought would be a cool place to stop is inside Peter Pan’s Flight while you’re flying above London. You know how there are little staircases off to the side? I picture them moving the ride vehicles one by one and escorting guests out via that stairway. I have no idea if that is what would happen if the ride broke down, but again, I’m hypothetically speaking here.
The bottom line is that as guests, we don’t get to choose when and where a ride stops, but we can rest assured that if it happens, Disney cast members know just what to do and will evacuate us as quickly and safely as they can.
Have you ever been riding a Disney attraction when it broke down? Did you get to see anything that was really cool? If you were given the choice, which attraction would you like to be on when it broke down, and where would you like to be stuck in that attraction?
