During peak vacation periods like the summer break, when families from all over the world are making their way to Walt Disney World, just about everything takes a little longer. Snack cart queues stretch around the corner, shows fill up earlier than expected, and before you know it, you’re staring at one of those dreaded Line Starts Here signs that seem to disappear into the distance. It got me thinking about the attractions that are genuinely worth giving up an hour or more of your day for… and the ones I’d happily save for another visit. Here are five that, in my opinion, earn every minute of the wait.
Avatar Flight of Passage, Disney’s Animal Kingdom
This attraction has quietly become one of my absolute favorites over the years. If you’ve been reading my articles for a while, you’ll know I’m usually trying to find a way to ride it twice in the same day. One of the reasons the long queue is a little easier to handle is that once you’re inside, you’re out of the Florida heat, and there is so much incredible theming to explore that the time passes surprisingly quickly. By the time you’re soaring over Pandora on the back of a banshee, it’s hard to remember how long you waited.
Kilimanjaro Safaris, Disney’s Animal Kingdom
We almost always head here early in the morning to avoid the longest waits, but if I missed that window, I’d still happily line up. The attraction lasts around 20 minutes, which makes it feel like great value for the time you’ve invested, and no two safaris are ever the same. Watching these incredible animals roaming through such expansive habitats is one of the most unique experiences in all of Walt Disney World, and it’s the perfect reminder to slow down and appreciate what makes Animal Kingdom so special.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Disney’s Hollywood Studios
You might remember that I’m not exactly the biggest Star Wars fan, so this recommendation says a lot. Personally, I’m usually reaching for an Individual Lightning Lane on this one if I can, but if that’s not an option, I still think it’s worth the wait. This isn’t just another ride. It’s a fully immersive experience that unfolds over 15 to 18 minutes, with multiple ride systems and storytelling that pulls you into the action whether you know every Star Wars character or not. If you love the franchise, it’s an easy decision. If you don’t, it’s still one of Disney’s most impressive attractions.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, EPCOT
This is the hill I will happily die on. There is almost no wait time that would convince me to skip Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. When you’ve traveled all the way from Sydney, as I have, this attraction is non-negotiable. The rotating soundtrack means every ride feels a little different, the queue is comfortable with plenty to look at, and the ride itself is pure joy from beginning to end. If I only had time for one attraction in EPCOT, this would be it every single time.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Magic Kingdom
The queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is filled with thoughtful details that continue the story beyond the film, making it one of those attractions where the experience begins well before you board the log. While I probably wouldn’t wait over an hour during every season of the year, summer is a different story. An 11-minute journey with a refreshing splash at the end is exactly what you need on a hot Florida afternoon. I’ve loved this attraction in all its forms since I was a child, and while the story has evolved, it’s still one of those Disney experiences that leaves me smiling every time.
