We decided to visit Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World to see the new Sumatran tiger cub, Bakso.
I love strolling through Animal Kingdom because it reminds me of when I used to live in Africa. To me, the park isn’t about the attractions but all the animals that are on view throughout the park. Animal Kingdom covers more than 500 acres. People say this is the hottest park.
I love seeing the Tree of Life. Did you know that the tree stands 145 feet tall and has more than 103,000 transparent leaves? There are also 325 carvings in the base of the tree. Be sure to take the path that winds around the tree and see how many animal carvings you can spot.
It took 18 months to create the carvings with 10 artists and 3 Imagineers working on them. The sculptors had to create the image before the plaster hardened. They only had 6-10 hours to create each image of extinct or nearly extinct animals.
We decided to do the Maharajah Jungle Trek to see the baby Sumatran tiger, Bakso. The trek is a great way to see animals and enjoy the beautiful nature around you. The self-guided tour takes about 20-25 minutes. In the bird area, they will give you cards to identify the different birds you are seeing.
The tiger is very popular, so be prepared for crowds. It was sad watching people push their way to the windows. We saw people stepping over wheelchairs to get past them. I wish people would bring their manners to the parks. We waited a little while, and we did get up to the windows to take pictures.
There were plenty of birds along the trail. Just be careful, you might find a “present” on your camera.
As we left the park, we were treated to seeing Kevin coming across the bridge. He seems to create a crowd when he is out and meeting guests.
‘Til next time, see you in the parks!
