Behind the Wall Sneak Peek at new Frozen Ever After attraction

Lauren Niederhiser, assistant project manager with Walt Disney Imagineering, gave the media a sneak peek of the new “Frozen Ever After” attraction at Epcot, due to open this summer.
Using concept art of the remodeled Pavilion, Lauren described the setting and how it related to the film. “One of the greatest things about this project is that we’re actually able to extend the architectural story of the Norway Pavilion over to this side, which used to be some unused space.” She explained how the Pavilion previously had more of a town center, harbor-side feel to it, but when the remodel is done, it will be represent a rural, country area in Norway. Screen Shot 2016-04-19 at 12.48.51 PM The team traveled to Trondheim, Norway, which was used as inspiration for the changes. The Royal Sommerhus will be prominently featured and represents a royal retreat cabin. The royal families in Norway typically have a cabin away from the castle where they go in the summer to get away from the pressures of royal life and to unwind and relax. The Royal Sommerhus belongs to Anna and Elsa’s family and will be filled with artifacts and elements from their childhood and the summers they spent away there with their family. The cabin is now open for all of the kingdom’s subject to enjoy. Lauren did clarify that the remodeled areas will be set in the time after Frozen takes place. Describing the rest of the pavilion, she said it will be full of greenery and will be a cozy, intimate space, with a perpetual summer, happy feel happening there. Rune stones, a traditional Norwegian type of carving, were taken from the now-closed Maelstrom attraction to be used in the décor of the new pavilion area. Screen Shot 2016-04-19 at 12.50.16 PM Details for the attraction itself have been released before, but Lauren did mention that the original voice cast will return and that Bobby and Kristen Lopez worked with the team to rearrange some of the songs to support the “Ever After” story. A specific opening date was not announced, though it will be sometime this summer.
