When it comes to the food and beverage options at Disney, we can just about all agree that we aren’t talking about your standard level of theme park food. The bar is high, and many guests come to the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort as equally for the food as they do for the rides. With unique fusions of flavor, stunning presentation, and any immersive atmosphere you choose to enjoy, Disney is hard to beat in the culinary theme park sweepstakes. However, one comment that I regularly hear from Disney Parks fans is the lack of inclusive options when it comes to dietary restrictions.
Food allergies, intolerances, and preferences are hard to keep up with, admittedly so, though, with such a high demand for the basics like vegetarian, vegan, nut-free, or gluten-free, it has always struck me as odd that there isn’t more of a standard variety. While some might see certain food preferences as being picky, they can be life-altering in other circumstances. In my family, one of us has a moderate food allergy, tolerating traces but not whole nuts. It can be challenging to find menu items (desserts in particular) that don’t list some nut as an intentional main ingredient. Because of this, I am always so conscious of food allergies and intolerances, often asking what our DIS community thinks on the issue.
Recently, I was covering a new menu item story for D-Luxe Burger in Disney Springs when I came across their full menu online. My jaw dropped; I simply couldn’t believe how many different dietary needs were catered for on the regular menu. These are some of the options on the standard menu, each with anywhere from 5 – 12 options in each category:
- Gluten/Wheat Allergy-Friendly
- Soy Allergy-Friendly
- Sesame Allergy-Friendly
- Peanut/Tree Nut Allergy-Friendly
- Milk Allergy-Friendly
- Fish/Shellfish Allergy-Friendly
- Egg Allergy-Friendly
It’s more impressive than any other menu I’ve found on or around Disney property. If you aren’t familiar with the location, D-Luxe Burger is a quick-service Disney Springs restaurant specializing in burgers, sandwiches, and shakes. Pretty simple sounding, right? Well, it makes me think that if this quick-service burger joint can manage an inclusive, allergy-friendly menu like this, why can’t more Disney locations do the same?
What do you think? Is this the most dietary-inclusive menu you’ve seen at Walt Disney World?
