We Tried the New Menu at Scat Cat’s Club and There Was a Clear Winner!

The Scat Cat’s Club is located in the lobby of Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Resort and is open daily from 5 PM until midnight. This lounge also offers live music on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays starting at 7:30 PM. The re-imagined Scat Cat’s Club originally opened in 2019 but changed its menu this March… time for another Disney snack attack!

The atmosphere in the lounge is cozy with dark lighting and a jazz band stage as the centerpiece. There’s even a small New Orleans-style courtyard you can enjoy! There is a full bar, themed specialty cocktails, and the standard Disney cocktail list.

If you watch the DIS Unlimited, you know I’ve picked up the nickname Hurricane Hannah, so obviously, I had to pick the Southern Hurricane! For $14.50, this classic New Orleans cocktail is made with Bayou Silver Rum, Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum, orange, pineapple, and lime juices with grenadine and a float of Myer’s Dark Rum. Made with three types of rum, this was a strong drink, especially for Disney. It was heavy on the orange flavor and not overly sweet like I expected. I would order it again and you can also order it at Port Orleans Riverside.

Both Craig and Ryno chose the Sazerac for $15.50. This Disney version is made with Knob Creek Rye Whiskey, agave nectar, and Peychaud’s Bitters with a splash of Pernod. While both Craig and Ryno agreed it wasn’t the best Sazerac they’ve had, it was still a solid cocktail and unique to what you can get at other Disney lounges. The only critique is the two Sazeracs were not consistent with how they were made and Craig’s was heavy on the agave nectar.

On to the reason for our visit – new food! The Pimento Cheese Fritters are served with pepper jelly garnish for $12. The size of the fritters was perfect and the creaminess of the pimento cheese was fantastic. More pepper jelly would have been a great addition and it could have used a little more kick by adding more pimento inside the fritter. Craig enjoyed this one more than Ryno and I, but it was still a good appetizer!

Next up, we had the Andouille Nachos for $13. These Cajun nachos are topped with andouille sausage and red bean chili, cheese sauce, trinity pico, and sour cream. Unfortunately, this was our least favorite of the new dishes. We all felt the andouille sausage got lost in the dish and the chili flavor overpowered the other spices. The chips were also a little limp, leaving us to assume they came from a bag or maybe had been sitting out for a while. Even though these nachos didn’t live up to our expectations, the serving size was large and this would be a great dish to share with the table.

If you haven’t guessed it already, the Gumbo Poutine was the clear winner at our table! For $12, this take on poutine is made with steak fries topped with gumbo, cheese curds, and cheese sauce. We all loved the gumbo flavor and the creaminess of the cheese. The steak fries were also well cooked and held up with the heaviness of the gumbo. We assumed this was the same gumbo from the quick-service, Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory, and we weren’t mad about it! The gumbo consistently has a great kick and is awesome by itself, but it is even better with fries and cheese!
