Gratuities can be a touchy topic when it comes to discussing whether you agree with them or not or if you actually leave them at all. It seems like now, it’s expected that you leave a gratuity for things that you oftentimes wouldn’t think warranted when, years ago, it wasn’t even a consideration. In fact, a lot of locations have printers that even suggest leaving a tip when you’re at a counter ordering, paying for, and picking up your own food.
Today, we want to know if you tip housekeepers (Mousekeeping) at your Disney resort hotel during your Disney vacations. We see discussion threads about tipping on DISboards that include the many different ways people tip Mousekeeping. Some people leave cash daily in case a different person is tidying up their room, while others tip for their entire trip on their checkout day. People have even reported leaving a thank you note with a gift card to a local coffee shop.
Then there’s the question of how much to tip. Do you leave a certain dollar amount per person in your room? Do you leave a flat rate each day for the whole group? Or do you not tip at all?
This topic begs the question of whether housekeeping is a tipped position, meaning the salary is less because tips are expected, as they are for servers at restaurants. Mousekeepers provide a service to you and your family, and sometimes they go above and beyond what is expected. Do you reward them with a tip, or do you consider that part of the service you’re paying for to stay at a Disney hotel?
There is so much to think about when it comes to gratuity, and we want to hear your thoughts on the matter, so please share them in the comments section below!
