Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom is at the heart of Frontierland and is filled with adventure. Guests of all ages and heights can visit this island between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM. To get here, you must be brave enough to board a log raft to cross the Rivers of America then you’ll disembark on Tom’s Landing. I recently visited the fun-filled island, and I have to say it’s definitely worth visiting, especially if it’s your first time at Magic Kingdom or if you are a frequent visitor that skips this attraction.

Tom Sawyer Island is a rustic, secret hideaway inspired by all the stories of Mark Twain. Guests will find walking trails, dark caves, wood bridges, creeks, and picnic tables here. As you trek across the island, you’ll experience breathtaking views of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the Haunted Mansion.

One of the best things I experienced here was sitting by Aunt Polly’s, which used to be a seasonal snack location, and watching the Festival of Fantasy Parade pass by across the river. It’s a unique way to watch the parade, and you get to sit in the shade with no crowds.

I love walking through the caves. The things you see and find are unexpected and make great photo opportunities. The best part is that kids love running through here, and it’s an excellent way for them to explore caves like this but safely. There is also a playground that kids can enjoy while running around the island. For me, this is a great way to get my steps in while also feeling like a kid as I explore the area.

In total, I spent about 45 minutes to an hour on the island, exploring everything it had to offer. A few families visiting had been there longer because the kids didn’t want to leave, which reminds me of when I was a kid. I think venturing out to Tom Sawyer Island is most definitely worth it, especially if you have children traveling with you.

I have so many childhood memories here with my family. We would run around and explore, which got me ready for nap time. When my siblings got older, visiting the island became much more fun because we would start making up stories about the area. Our imaginations went wild.

I highly recommend visiting this attraction whether you have kids or not. After seeing how many picnic tables they have there now, I am tempted to pack a lunch and enjoy it there, away from the hustle and bustle of Magic Kingdom.
