Shooting the Haunted Mansion

I’ve been taking video cameras onto rides for years – I love ride through videos – especially on those days when I need a ‘boost’ – something to connect me to my love of Disney.   The Haunted Mansion is one of those attractions that’s virtually impossible to film though.  It’s so dark that most cameras can’t handle it. So, when our own Craig Williams started going on about the new Sony Alpha A7S II camera and how amazing it was in low light, I had to try it.

Now, this camera is not for the faint of heart.  This is a DSLR and the body alone has a price tag of $3000 – you pay extra for the lenses.  As soon as I saw the video this camera could shoot (4k), the weeping over the cost subsided and was replaced with shrieks of joy.  The ballroom scene came out particularly good.

The bride in the attic haunts my dreams 🙂

The caretaker is one of those shots that’s virtually impossible to get – it’s so dimly lit – when I saw this on the video, I was like a 12 year old schoolgirl that just saw Justin Bieber!

The graveyard scene has always been one of my favorites, it looks awesome on video.
