Should Disney Create a “Drinks Package” for the Disney Parks?

When people first hear the phrase “Disney Drinks Package,” many assume it refers to alcohol, but that is not the concept here. Instead, imagine a non-alcoholic beverage package designed for everyday families and park-goers, something that makes staying hydrated and refreshed easier and more convenient. This package could cover unlimited fountain soda, bottled water, and perhaps even tiered options that include specialty drinks from Starbucks, Joffrey’s, or other popular vendors found throughout Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Think of it as the Disney Dining Plan, but focused entirely on beverages.

The practical benefits are easy to see. At present, many guests arrange for grocery delivery services to drop off bottled water at their resort, or they pack multiple bottles into their backpacks and attempt to bring a few bottles into the parks. Others rely on refillable bottles, which become burdensome to carry and often heat up under the Florida sun. A drinks package would simplify everything. Guests could simply scan their MagicBand or ticket and receive whatever beverage they wanted at that moment, whether it’s a cold water in the blazing afternoon heat or a Diet Coke as an afternoon pick-me-up. The system would be quick, seamless, and feel like a perk rather than a purchase.

Disney already has a version of this concept at its resorts with the refillable resort mugs. Guests purchase a mug, and for the duration of their stay, they can refill it with soda, tea, or coffee at their hotel. The mugs are immensely popular because they provide value and convenience, even if guests do not use them for every possible refill. Now imagine if that same concept worked inside the parks. Instead of being limited to resort food courts, families could enjoy that same sense of ease while exploring Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, or Animal Kingdom. Extending the resort mug model to the parks would feel like a natural progression, one that many guests would quickly embrace.

This concept could also address smaller inconveniences that, while not deal-breakers, impact the overall guest experience. For example, many people bring metal refillable water bottles into the parks. These are helpful, but they often cause delays at security, since metal bottles, metal glasses cases, and umbrellas are among the most common items that trigger additional bag checks. By eliminating the need for a bulky water bottle, Disney could improve the entry process for both guests and Cast Members. It is the kind of subtle improvement that adds up to a smoother and less stressful day.

The health and safety benefits should not be overlooked. Florida’s heat and humidity are infamous, and dehydration is a frequent cause of illness and medical emergencies in the parks. Guests fainting, suffering heat exhaustion, or even ending up in the hospital because of dehydration is unfortunately common. A drinks package would encourage guests to stay hydrated by removing the hesitation that comes with repeated drink purchases. Parents would feel confident knowing their children could grab water whenever needed, and adults would find it easier to pace themselves with caffeine or other refreshments. By making hydration more accessible, Disney could create a healthier and safer environment for its visitors.

Of course, this would not be offered as a free perk. Like the Disney Dining Plan, the drinks package would almost certainly require that every member of the group or family be enrolled to prevent sharing. It would not be inexpensive either, very few things at Disney are, but the convenience, value, and peace of mind could make it worthwhile for many guests. The psychological benefit of knowing drinks are “already paid for” can be just as important as the actual cost savings. It allows families to relax and focus on the experience rather than constantly budgeting every drink purchase.

In the bigger picture, a Disney Drinks Package could be a win-win scenario. For guests, it offers convenience, comfort, health benefits, and a sense of value. For Disney, it represents an additional revenue stream that builds on an existing framework guests are already familiar with. As Disney looks for creative ways to enhance the on-property experience and justify the value of a vacation that grows more expensive every year, this is an idea worth serious consideration.
