It’s been a few weeks now since my family and I returned from a two-week Disney extravaganza, visiting both coasts to experience everything the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World had to offer. I’ve been slowly working through all my notes from the trip, and there’s one discovery I can’t wait to share.
For many of us, the first thing that comes to mind when we picture a Disney vacation is the rides. Whether you prefer to take it slow on family favorites or throw caution to the wind on thrill rides, Disney has something for just about everyone. Even so, there was something that stood out to me this time that I’d never noticed quite like this before.
Across both coasts, there are two standout attractions that completely stole the show, setting a new bar for Disney-level immersion. Surprisingly, their shared theme isn’t something I would have ever expected to define the “best” of Disney Parks. When you think of iconic Disney attractions, classics like The Haunted Mansion, the Jungle Cruise, or Pirates of the Caribbean come to mind, rides that inspired movies and became park staples. Of course, Disney characters are a natural fit, and while Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway was the first attraction themed directly after our favorite faces, the two attractions that rose above the rest come from a completely different corner of the Disney universe: Marvel.
That’s right, the Guardians of the Galaxy have taken over as the reigning champions of Disney attractions.
At the Disneyland Resort, Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure delivers a pulse-pounding transformation of the former Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. It’s a perfect reimagining for a new generation, blending high-energy thrills, laugh-out-loud moments, and one of the best ride soundtracks ever created. The music kicks in before you even push back toward the gantry, and by the time you’re free-falling through the Collector’s fortress, you’re singing along and maybe even screaming a little with everyone else.
Meanwhile, across the country at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind offers a completely different kind of experience that might just be the best roller coaster in the world (in my humble opinion). With a rotating ride system, seamless storytelling, and a fresh playlist of intergalactic hits, it’s a thrilling journey that somehow manages to feel both nostalgic and brand new at the same time.
What’s fascinating is how both attractions use the same creative formula of humor, music, and heart to deliver two totally unique experiences. Together, they prove that Marvel’s misfit heroes have done more than just earn a place in the Disney lineup. They’ve redefined what a Disney attraction can be: innovative, exhilarating, and packed with that unmistakable feel-good joy that makes every park visit unforgettable.
