15 Years of Magic!

15 Years of Magic!

It was 15 years ago on June 1st, that I launched the DIS. In the course of that 15 years, I've been much like a proud father, watching as the site has grown and changed, accomplished new things and yes, even learned from more than a few mistakes.

When I first started the site, I thought I was the only one who obsessively planned out each detail of his Disney vacation. Existentialism and a Disney vacation were a mutually exclusive concept to me. Only after the DIS started to become popular did I get to know many others who shared the same passion. And in that community of like-minded people, I was humbled and awed at the power we all possessed to inspire each other.

Over the years, I've seen the community on our site do great things. We've supported each other in times of need and triumph. We've given of ourselves to support a greater cause. We've banded together in times of tragedy and comforted our friends in times of loss. I will never forget the way our community came together in the aftermath of 9/11 to support our friends who had lost loved ones in the World Trade Center and on United flight 93. And I will never forget how we saluted the heroes among us, both in the military and in the NYPD.

In April of 2008 when the DIS lost one of our closest friends and fellow DIS Unplugged podcaster, Bob Varley - the outpouring of grief and support from around the world was like nothing I've ever experienced in my life.

You don't plan a community like this – you're blessed with it.

I've been equally blessed to be surrounded by a great team of people who work diligently to keep this site running. From our full time staff to the volunteer army of moderators and webmasters, this group of Disney fans has expended energy and passion equal to my own in making the DIS what it has become.

But it is the legion of Disney fans who visit the site each day, who contribute to our discussion forums and listen to our podcast that make the site what it is. All the effort and energy in the world can't create that. Without your support this site is little more than a lot of words in a cyber-void. You have given it life, and in doing so have given me my life in more ways than I can express.

So, on behalf of all of us here at the DIS – I want to say THANK YOU. Thanks for visiting, thanks for listening and most of all, thanks for sharing your Disney passion with us and with the rest of the world. We are unlike any other community and I'm fiercely proud to be a part of it. Here's to 15 more years!!
