Moving walkways and a nearby toll plaza being removed at Orlando International Airport

Some changes are taking place in and around Orlando International Airport.

The moving walkways that can be found throughout the terminals are being removed to create more space. The airport was originally designed to handle 24 million passengers per year, but in reality, are seeing nearly 38 million annually.

Removing the walkways will help on busy traffic days when the security lines may stretch back to that area, but may cause some issues for people with mobility issues, as it can be a long walk through the terminals. The walkways will be completely gone by spring.

Outside of the airport, Airport Plaza on State Road 528 will be demolished, beginning Sunday, January 31. This plaza sees more than 75,000 vehicles per day and the Central Florida Expressway Authority says its removal will help eliminate congestion. It should take about six weeks to be fully removed.

Drivers will now pay tolls at four new exit ramp plazas.

Her Chicago-born husband, David, left the city for her, and they're now raising their three children (Jacob, Jonah and Lydia) just 12 miles from her hometown. As the Senior Editor of the DIS (wdwinfo.com), Leah spends a lot of time writing about, reading about, and discussing Disney. So, it should come as no surprise that one of her family's favorite ways to spend time is going to Walt Disney World and traveling on Disney Cruise Line. She also enjoys shopping, watching movies with her husband and doing crafts with and for her kids.
