Saying Goodbye to the Rivers of America in Magic Kingdom at Disney World

We decided to spend some time on a recent Magic Kingdom visit in Walt Disney World enjoying the Rivers of America area. If you haven’t heard, they are replacing this area with a Cars-themed land. The rumors are saying that construction could start very soon. I am not a fan of big changes, but will trust that WDW has a new vision for this area.

This area always provided us with some peace and a return to a simpler time. I love to cruise the Rivers of America on the Riverboat, Liberty Belle. It was a great way to get a little downtime in the middle of a very busy theme park.

Boarding was easy; we had someone in a wheelchair, and we needed to wait to board but there were plenty of spaces near the railings to enjoy the view.

Did you ever go to Aunt Polly’s on Tom Sawyers Island? It looks sad, all closed up. Do you remember when you could find a paintbrush that when you took it to a cast member, you could get a FastPass for Splash Mountain or Big Thunder Mountain Railroad? Did you go into the cave, or walk across the floating bridge? I didn’t do it every visit but enjoyed my frequent visits to the island.

As we traveled down the river, do you remember when the cabin would catch fire as you went by?

I always enjoyed the detail that went into the Indian village, the animals in the woods, etc. It also was fun spotting it while riding the train.

I also loved the sense of humor the Imagineers had with the naming of items along the way.

All too soon, the Haunted Mansion came into view, signaling the end of the cruise back in time.
