Disney’s application for drone flights is approved by the FAA

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has been approved by the Federal Aviation Authority to have drone flights over the domestic Disney theme parks. The permission allows Disney to use drones over the theme parks until November 2020. Right now it is speculated that Disney could potentially integrate the use of these drones into their nighttime shows.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Disney has outlined in the application to the Federal Aviation Authority that the drones will stay 100 feet away from guest areas, and that the drones’ “flight paths will largely take place over water elements and restricted areas.”

This isn’t Disney’s first attempt to have the Federal Aviation Authority approve of the use of drones in the parks. In fact, in October 2015 Disney’s application was denied.
