A touch of Hollywood nostalgia has quietly returned to Disney’s Hollywood Studios this holiday season. On Hollywood Boulevard, a new festive window display at Tailors to the Stars is stopping longtime fans in their tracks — for the familiar faces within it.

The display features three life-size figures that once stood inside one of the park’s most beloved former attractions, The Great Movie Ride. The mannequins are none other than the “Footlight Parade” dancers, who appeared in the opening scene of the ride before it closed permanently in 2017.

Originally inspired by Busby Berkeley’s 1933 musical number Footlight Parade, these performers once rotated in synchronized fashion on a glimmering Art Deco-style fountain; the introduction to the journey through classic cinema that defined the attraction.

Now, they’ve been given a festive second act. Each dancer is dressed in a candy cane-striped costume complete with a glittering silver tutu, red sequined accents, and a peppermint-adorned Santa hat. Look closely, and you’ll even spot details from their original costumes, including the distinctive silver heels and swimming caps that date back to their on-ride days.

The trio now stands against a peppermint backdrop, blending into Hollywood Studios’ seasonal décor while serving as a subtle nod to park history.
I’ll be honest – and probably speak for many fellow fans out there – the sight is both heartwarming and bittersweet. The Great Movie Ride was a defining part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios (originally Disney-MGM Studios) from its 1989 opening until its 2017 closure, when it was replaced by Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. In fact, the attraction was the heart of the park itself and one of the main reasons the entire concept expanded beyond what was once envisioned as an EPCOT pavilion… but I digress.

While The Great Movie Ride may be gone (and my heart continues to break), it is comforting to know that a few of its stars have found their way back into the spotlight this holiday season.

What do you think? Are you team Great Movie Ride or Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway?
