Casting call put out for Chinese actress to play Mulan in upcoming Disney film

We reported back in October that Disney was working on casting a Chinese actress to play the role of Mulan in a new live-action version of the 1998 animated film. TeenVogue is sharing a few of the characteristics Disney is looking for in the actress.

In the Mulan casting call, the description is looking for someone “18-20 years old to play 18; must be able to speak fluent English and Mandarin Chinese.” The character is also listed “as having a power of speed and coordination and sheer force.”

Disney is also looking for a bilingual actor for the role of Chen, a “rival cadet who is used to being the best in his class.” This actor must be “in his 20s, must be able to speak fluent English and Mandarin Chinese; strapping, cocky, and handsome.”

Martial arts training is also listed as a benefit for both roles.

The live-action Mulan will arrive in theaters in November 2, 2018.
