Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin officially reopened this week in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom, and there’s a new surprise waiting for guests as they blast their way through the galaxy.
Disney PhotoPass Service has introduced a new Animated Magic Shot that is captured during the attraction itself, giving riders an updated take on their onboard photo. The reveal came via Instagram with the message, “Incoming transmission: Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is back – with a new Animated Magic Shot,” and it’s a fun addition that ties directly into the ride experience.
Unlike traditional Magic Shots that require a PhotoPass photographer, this one happens automatically while you’re on the attraction. As your mission unfolds and you take aim at Emperor Zurg’s targets, your ride photo now includes an animated effect layered into the final image, adding a little extra energy to the moment you cross the finish line.
It’s a smart update for a ride that’s all about action and competition. We already check our scores the second they appear on the screen, for better or for worse. Whether you’re aiming for Galactic Hero status or just spinning wildly and hoping for the best, the animated element gives your ride snapshot a bit more personality. Don’t forget to stop and look at your animated photo afterward.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has long been a Tomorrowland staple, and its return is already drawing plenty of attention. This new onboard photo enhancement definitely adds something fresh for returning guests who have experienced it countless times. And now, there’s official proof of your score!
If you’re heading to Magic Kingdom, make sure to check your ride photo after you defeat Zurg. You might find a little extra magic waiting for you this time around.
