First-time visitors to Walt Disney World often look at the map and wonder: How on [the most magical place on] earth am I going to get around this place? Don’t worry, you do not need a car to explore the resort! Disney offers an entire network of free transportation that’s almost as fun as the parks themselves. Yes… it’s FREE! From gliding through the sky or across the waters, here’s a quick and simple breakdown.
Monorail Magic
The monorail is equally an important method of transportation and an enjoyable “first ride” of the day! The Walt Disney World Monorail system connects the Ticket & Transportation Center, Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and three deluxe resort hotels: Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Polynesian Village Resort, and the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

The monorail is a quintessential part of the Walt Disney World vacation experience for many visitors, whether its their connection back to their resort, or the start of their Magic Kingdom day from the Ticket & Transportation Center.

Skyliner Views
Disney’s newest transportation system is a gondola ride in the sky, connecting EPCOT and Hollywood Studios to some resort hotels, including:
- Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney’s Riviera Resort
- Disney’s Pop Century Resort
- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

It’s quick, breezy, and some of the views are unbeatable.
Tip: Take a park break and try a new restaurant at the connecting resorts!
When in Doubt, Take the Bus
Disney’s resort bus system at Walt Disney World is the backbone of getting around property, especially if you’re staying at a Disney Resort hotel. It’s free, runs all day, and connects every resort to the four theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs.

Buses typically begin running about 45 minutes before park opening and continue until roughly an hour after closing, though exact timing can vary by location and crowd levels
However, not every destination is connected by bus at all times. Direct buses usually run between resorts and the four theme parks and Disney Springs. However, buses between resorts are not direct. If you’re trying to visit another hotel, you’ll usually need to transfer at a park or Disney Springs.
Resorts along the Monorail loop or Skyliner route may not offer bus service to parks they’re already directly connected to. For instance, guests at Skyliner resorts like Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort typically use the Skyliner to reach EPCOT and Hollywood Studios instead of a bus.

Tip: Have you tried Disney Bus Roulette?
Boats & Ferries
Want something more relaxing? Try a water route. Magic Kingdom has ferry boats traveling across the Seven Seas Lagoon from the Ticket & Transportation Center and back.

From Magic Kingdom, smaller resort boats stop at nearby resorts:
- Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
- Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
- Disney’s Polynesian Resort
- Disney’s Contemporary Resort
- Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

EPCOT and Hollywood Studios share Friendship Boats that travel between the two parks, stopping at the resorts on Crescent Lake in between, including:
- Disney’s Boardwalk Inn
- Disney’s Yacht Club Resort & Disney’s Beach Club Resort
- Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin

More Friendship boats operate inside EPCOT’s World Showcase Lagoon, connecting multiple points of World Showcase, including Canada, Germany, and Morocco.

Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter Resorts offer complimentary boat service to Disney Springs and back aboard their Sassagoula River Cruise ferry boats.

Minnie Van Service
Okay, this is the one exception to that aforementioned “free” part…
Disney’s Minnie Van Service is a private, on-demand transportation option offered at Walt Disney World through the Lyft ride-share app. But instead of a regular Lyft ride, you’ll be picked up in a red SUV decorated with Minnie Mouse’s signature polka dots.
These vehicles travel from anywhere within Walt Disney World Resort (theme parks, resorts, water parks, and Disney Springs), driven by official Disney Cast Members, and offer a few extra Disney bells and whistles inside, like Mickey Mouse Shorts playing on screens, or Disney music playing. They offer pickup and drop-off points close to your resort room, along with dedicated locations near the Disney bus stations at the parks — rather than the standard ride-share areas.

Each Minnie Van is equipped with two complimentary Graco 4Ever carseats (that can also be adjusted for rear-facing), so it’s an easier option for families vs. seeking out ride-share drivers with the proper accommodations.
Walking Paths
Sometimes your own two feet are the fastest ride… You can walk from the Grand Floridian or Contemporary resorts to Magic Kingdom, or between EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios along the waterfront side of Disney’s BoardWalk Inn or Yacht & Beach Club resorts.

All Disney transportation is free (with the exception of Lyft’s Minnie Van Service) and doesn’t require a park ticket, so you can use it for park and resort-hopping, or just enjoying the ride. Which is your favorite way of getting around Walt Disney World?
