ABC Commissary is one of Hollywood Studios largest indoor Quick Service restaurants and the theming is reminiscent of ’90’s Disney-MGM Studios. The menu has evolved over the years and currently serves sandwiches, tacos, and salads. However, one menu item stands above the rest in popularity, the Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

The original version of the sandwich featured sourdough bread, various cheeses, plenty of flavor, and a side of buffalo sauce for dipping. If you opted for fries, it came with steak cut fries instead of the standard Disney shoestring version. Today, you can still get this sandwich with the Arugula-Farro Side Salad made with Granny Smith apples, dried cranberries, parmesan cheese, and pecans in a dijon vinaigrette.

Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese Sandwich – buffalo chicken, Monterey Jack, provolone, cheddar, and cream cheese on toasted grilled sourdough and served with French fries or arugula-farro salad – $12.79

Despite the description of the sandwich being the same, it feels like a sad imitation. The bread tastes like white bread, there’s no accompanying buffalo dipping sauce, there’s less chicken in the mixture, and it now tastes mostly like cream cheese. While not “bad”, it used to be so great and now I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it. It also now comes with basic Disney fries instead of steak fries.

You can still get ranch “on tap” at ABC Commissary but this sandwich is in desperate need of the buffalo flavor. Personally, I’m happy about the switch to Heinz Ketchup in the parks and you can already see it rolling out in restaurants.

Another hidden gem of ABC Commissary is the ability to get self-serve ice and cold water. There are beverage stations on both sides of the restaurant and this is a great stop for refilling water bottles.

In keeping with the theme of being a “commissary” for ABC, there are costumes and props on display from ABC shows like Scrubs and Abbott Elementary. It is fun to see these displays change from time to time!

I’ve seen other people calling out the Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese changes on social media and wish Disney would pay attention. These changes feel like a cheap way of cutting corners and when Hollywood Studios is already in need of good Quick Service options, this is a big ol’ bummer. Let us know if you’ve tried this sandwich or what your go-to order is at ABC Commissary!
