Disney has been on a streak of developing live-action films from some of their most popular animated films. The company has just announced the newest project – a live-action version of Mulan.
Producers are Chris Bender and J.C. Spink (We’re the Millers). Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek will write the script, based on “the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the female warrior who was the main character in Disney’s 1998 animated film.” In Disney’s version, Mulan pretends to be a man so she can go to war instead of her elderly father. She ends up saving the country and redeeming her family’s honor.
Disney put out a live-action version of Alice in Wonderland in 2010 and has since followed up with Maleficent and Cinderella. The Jungle Book, a sequel to Alice in Wonderland and Beauty and the Beast are all in the works.
