The script, based on the 1972 Mary Rodgers novel, is by Bridget Carpenter, who wrote the book for the stage musical. Steve Carr (Daddy Day Care, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life) will direct and executive produce.

This will be Disney’s third version of Freaky Friday. The 1976 original starred Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, while the 2003 remake featured Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.
