Beyond the Kids Clubs on a Disney Cruise

The Magic PlayFloor, Andy’s Room, Pixie Hollow, Monsters Academy, and the new Star Wars Millennium Falcon all give kids amazing opportunities onboard a Disney Cruise ship, but there is a lot of fun to be had outside of the Oceaneer Club and Lab for kids ages 3 to 12 as well. Here are five things your kids will love on a Disney Cruise beyond the Kid Clubs: Outdoor Games
  1. Outdoor games – Take your pick – shuffle board, putt-putt, ping pong, basketball. There are many outdoor sports that your kids will love doing with or without you. Our boys had never seen a shuffle board court before our cruise on the Disney Dream. They enjoyed learning something new. They also enjoyed hours and hours of ping pong. The cruise ships must invest in many ping pong balls. The kids onboard had those balls flying all over the deck and off the boat sometimes!
Midship Detectives Agency
  1. Midship Detective Agency – If you are sailing on the Disney Dream or the Disney Fantasy, you will not want to miss this fun, interactive adventure. The mystery-style game will lead you to more than 20 “enchanted” artworks all over the boat to find clues and discover missing items. Hint, hint, if you choose to do the Muppets mystery, be sure to take a picture of the Muppet-sized stateroom door. You will thank yourself later. The game is also a good way to work off those extra desserts as it will have you running all over the boat!
  1. Character Sketching Classes – A wonderful onboard activity for the whole family is the character sketching class. My kids and I learned how to draw Donald Duck, Pluto, and Grumpy. It was quite fun to see whose turned out the best. We were very proud of our artwork. A few of the pieces are hanging on the refrigerator now!
Endless Ice Cream
  1. Endless Ice Cream – An onboard kid favorite is definitely the ice cream. Every time we turned around, our nine-year-old son was helping himself to another cone. Nothing beats sitting in a lounge chair and looking out at the ocean with an ice cream cone in hand!
Your Room
  1. Your Stateroom – When Disney designed their staterooms, they had kids in mind. If you are staying in an inside stateroom on the Disney Dream or Disney Fantasy, your kids will be delighted with the Magical Porthole. The virtual porthole gives real-time views of the sea as well as sightings of beloved Disney characters and special messages. Our boys loved to guess who the next character to appear would be. They also fell in love with their bunk beds and enjoyed staring up at the ceiling above, which was painted with stars and a Peter Pan constellation. On the first night of our cruise, all our seven-year-old son wanted to do after dinner was go back to the room!
