I’ve been hanging around in Disneyland more recently, filling in some of the gaps in my 2024 to-do list when I came across something unexpected. As usual, I was standing in the line for a churro when I saw the sign that said Guava Cream Cheese Dipping sauce. As you might imagine, my inner churro purist was disturbed; how could one dream of messing with the perfection of the standard churro at Disneyland? Well, the following evening, I was standing in the same line (yes, I was getting another one!) when I decided to give this weird-looking, coral-colored paste a go to see what was happening. I hadn’t seen anyone purchasing or trying it, so there was no way to gauge what to expect in advance. I decided to bite the bullet and try it for you.
I purchased this little tub of neon dip from the Matterhorn Churro Cart and took a seat near the Mad Tea Party. I expected it to be like most things with similar flavors, heavy on the cream cheese and light on the guava; however, I found the opposite. At first, the flavor combination was strange, but it became quite delicious after a minute. The guava component was more substantial than expected, meaning you didn’t need to add heaps to feel like you could taste it. In turn, that meant that the taste of the actual churro you bought in the first place wasn’t getting lost in the dip. In my experience, most snacks that have an optional dipping sauce usually just become a vessel for the sauce itself. In this case, the dip added to the cinnamon sugar goodness of this crunchy treat. While the tubs are small, the one lasted my family of four easily and was an excellent way to enjoy this special treat that we all love.
While I can’t say that I’ve become a churro-dipping convert, I can say that I will be trying more of these in my future and that I much prefer this as a way to enjoy different flavors of this iconic Disney snack to the flavored churros themselves; that’s a whole different commitment that I’m not yet comfortable with. Of course, my favorite churro has not changed. It can be found at Señor Buzz Churros, in Disney California Adventure Park, where you can get the Cinnamon Super Galaxy Churro! It’s virtually the same but has colorful sparkles and shimmer dust that make me happy.
