In the Disney Archives, KENZO Creative Directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon were given access to the original drawings from the 1967 classic animated movie. In an interview with Vogue, they said, “It was incredible. We were able to [watch] some never-before-seen segments of the original movie,” said Leon. “And seeing the process behind their creation was the most exciting part of this collaboration.”
Putting a fun and whimsical twist on Hawaiian wear, prints of Mowgli, Bagheera the panther, King Louie, Hathi the elephant, Akela the wolf and of course, Baloo the bear are splashed across silk and cotton summer dresses, shorts, shirts and jackets for women and light jackets, trousers, shorts and shirts for men.
For this first collaboration with Disney, one of KENZO’s most renowned emblems, the tiger, has been usurped on a line of sweaters and tee-shirts by none other than the fearsome tiger, Shere Khan. Shere Khan makes his appearance on KENZO’s traditional tiger sweater and tee-shirts. The collection is rounded off with knitwear featuring Kaa the python and an intarsia Shere Khan pullover. The collection has a suggested retail price from $135.00-$705.00.
“What we found most appealing for this project was to marry strong elements from The Jungle Book with details that we know as quintessential KENZO,” said Carol Lim & Humberto Leon. “There’s a way that everything comes together that is slightly familiar but also really fresh and exciting.”

“The silhouettes we chose for the garments and accessories were inspired by the new direction Disney has taken with the live-action movie,” continued Lim & Leon. “There is a slight nod to jungle / safari elements (and even beautiful printed silk shorts directly inspired by Mowgli’s costume). Everything has been executed in a way that feels elevated and modern, which has been the collective goal of Disney and KENZO from the very beginning of this collaboration.”
