First Magic Kingdom band director retiring after long career at Disneyland

Stan Freese, currently the Disneyland Resort Casting and Booking Director, is preparing to retire after a 43-year career in Disney Parks.

Freese began his career at Walt Disney World as the first director of the Magic Kingdom Park band after being spotted by Disney playing a tuba concert at the White House for President Richard Nixon.

His career then took him to Disneyland as the band leader, then to Tokyo Disneyland as show director and back to Walt Disney World as entertainment producer, before returning to the Disneyland Resort, where he spent much of his career.

In addition to leading the Disneyland Band, Freese also brought Tuba Christmas to the Disneyland Resort and created the education series, Disneyland Resort Salutes the American Band.  The annual concert series introduces second graders in Orange County (California) to music.

Freese says that he was lucky to fall into his job and has never had a bad day, “maybe a bad hour, but never a bad day.”
