Continuing the tradition and legacy first began by Walt Disney himself—congratulations to Marilyn West and Stephen Lim, the newly-announced 2019-2020 Walt Disney World Resort Ambassador team who will share the inspiration of Disney throughout the resort and community!
The Ambassador Program began over 50 years ago and is steeped in Disney heritage and tradition. Walt Disney created the program during the Disneyland Tencennial celebration when he selected a cast member to represent the resort at public appearances during the celebration.
The pair were announced in a special ceremony Thursday at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, where Walt Disney World Resort President George Kalogridis congratulated them.
Marilyn turned her fascination with Walt Disney World’s roller coasters into an engineering degree from the University of Kentucky. After three internships at Walt Disney World, she joined Worldwide Safety operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
Stephen is a California native who stayed closed to home, attending the University of Southern California and joining the college program at the Disneyland Resort. After rising through the ranks at Disneyland, he headed to Orlando where he works as a front desk service advisor for Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and teaches the Traditions classes to new Cast Members.
Kalogridis said of the new Ambassadors:
“Being a member of the Walt Disney World Ambassador team is an extraordinary honor–as well as a tremendous responsibility. It takes very special people to represent America’s largest single-site workplace and, on behalf of all their fellow Cast members, I congratulate Marilyn and Stephen on their selection.”
The new Ambassadors will go through three months of training, then assume their new roles in January 2019, continuing as Ambassadors until December 2020.
