The animal care team at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is continuing the seasonal tradition of offering pumpkins to the animals for Halloween.
The enrichment program gives the animals a chance to make choices about their environment and often encourages natural behaviors. As you can see in the video, the animals might eat, smash, or just roll the pumpkins around. The animal care team often tries to offer enrichment activities to the animals, which sometimes include toys, opportunities to explore different scents or tastes, and even edible treats.
The animal care team gets in on the fun too by carving the pumpkins, then adding bugs, seasonings, or other treats to encourage foraging.
Visit Animal Kingdom this week, or The Seas with Nemo & Friends at Epcot on October 31st, to catch pumpkin playtime.
