Animation Box Office Record Surpassed as ‘Incredibles 2’ Passes $500 Million Domestic

Superheroes are continuing their domination of the 2018 box office and Disney superheroes in particular might just have a 1-2 finish at the box office this weekend, as Ant-Man and the Wasp moves into the number one spot while Incredibles 2 has made box office history by becoming the first animated film to cross $500 million in North America.

Incredibles 2, is on track to bring in $31 million in its fourth weekend. On Saturday, it broke the domestic animation record set by Finding Dory back in 2016 at $486 million. It will also become only the twelfth film to gross over $500 million domestically and will pass Rogue One: A Star Wars Story joining the top ten all-time domestic list in the coming week.

Incredibles 2 has exceeded expectations beginning with its [animation] record-breaking $182 million opening. The 14-year hiatus between the sequel and the 2004 original played a considerable role in its success as the millennials who saw the original as kids returned as adults, resulting in strong ticket sales from family audiences.
