Disney is teaming up with Frontier Developments, the studio behind games including RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, Planet Coaster, and Planet Zoo. The collaboration will develop and publish a creative management simulation game based on Disney IP, though no specific Disney property, release date or gaming platforms have been revealed. Could a Disney Parks Tycoon-style video game be in our future?
A press release says the game will “build upon the Company’s extensive experience and proven capabilities as a leader in the Creative Management Simulation (CMS) genre.”
Frontier has extensive experience with games that let players create and manage their own theme parks, making this partnership especially exciting for those who have spent years dreaming of doing the same with Disney. Ever since the original RollerCoaster Tycoon arrived in 1999, the idea of designing and running a theme park from the ground up has been a favorite among simulation game players.

Frontier has a little more history with Disney. In 2011, they worked with Microsoft Studios and Disney on Disneyland Adventures, which recreated Disneyland in Anaheim as an open-world game for XBOX. Designed for players of all ages, the Kinect title offered more than 100 hours of gameplay and allowed players to explore the park in a way that was a first for the platform.
