It’s time to play the music. It’s time to light the lights… again!
Originally announced in September, Disney+ has confirmed the brand-new Muppet Show special will premiere on ABC and Disney+ on February 4th, 2026. This one-time variety show will reunite Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal, and the entire Muppet gang as they return to the iconic Muppet Theatre in celebration of the show’s 50th anniversary.

Today, Disney released an official teaser for the special. ‘Rainbow Connection’ softly plays while Kermit returns to switch on the show’s stage lights once again, as well as setting down his iconic personalized teacup on his desk:
“The Muppet Showā returns Feb. 4 for a triumphant special event on Disney+ and ABC. It’s The Muppet Show! Kermit, Miss Piggy and the beloved Muppet gang are back with a brand-new special event. Music, comedy, and a whole lot of chaos is bound to ensue when The Muppets once again take the stage of the original Muppet Theatre with their very special guest, Sabrina Carpenter!

Produced by The Muppets Studio in partnership with Point Grey Pictures (the production company co-founded by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver), the special promises to stay true to the heart of the original series. Early production notes pitched the show as a blend of musical numbers, sketch comedy, behind-the-scenes antics, and the kind of lovable pandemonium that made The Muppet Show a household favorite in the 1970s and beyond.

While the special is currently a standalone event, its initial announcement generated excitement among longtime Muppet fans and newer audiences alike, particularly those hoping for a modern return to the classic variety show format. If it resonates, the event could easily serve as a proof of concept for a future series. Set those calendars for February 4th!
