Disney fans will soon get a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process that transforms beloved stories into immersive experiences with the debut of Disney Worldbuilders, a new feature documentary coming to Disney+ this August.
Directed by Academy Award and Emmy Award-nominated filmmaker Leslie Iwerks, the documentary explores how Disney’s films, characters, and stories make the leap from the screen into theme parks, attractions, lands, and other experiences across The Walt Disney Company.

The film features interviews with Disney Legends, filmmakers, Imagineers, and creative leaders who have helped shape some of Disney’s most recognizable worlds. Along the way, they reflect on the moments and memories that inspired their careers while offering insight into how new ideas evolve from concept to reality.
Disney says viewers will also get a behind-the-scenes look at projects currently in development, including preview footage of upcoming lands, attractions, and experiences that are still under construction.
Among the featured voices are Bob Iger, Jennifer Lee, Josh D’Amaro, Dave Filoni, James Cameron, Jared Bush, Jon Favreau, Kevin Feige, and Pete Docter. Together, they discuss the creative process behind building worlds that guests can explore, whether that’s walking through the streets of Zootopia, stepping into the Marvel Universe, or climbing aboard the Millennium Falcon.
Those attending D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim will have the opportunity to see the documentary before its streaming debut. On August 16, 2026, Disney will host a special presentation featuring several of the storytellers from the film, who will discuss the art of worldbuilding before attendees are treated to an advance screening.
Leslie Iwerks has previously explored the Disney’s legacy through several acclaimed projects, including Disneyland Handcrafted.
Disney Worldbuilders premieres on Disney+ this August, sharing an inside look at the collaboration, imagination, and creative talent behind many of Disney’s most iconic experiences, while offering an early glimpse at what’s still to come.
