Disney’s CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Disney has tasked Lucasfilm with a third standalone Star Wars film, set to debut in 2020. Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference, Iger stated that so far there are three standalone Star Wars films planned, all under what Disney is calling A Star Wars Story.
There is now a Star Wars film planned every year until 2020, and Bob Iger is now in talks with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy about plans for 2021 and beyond. This December, Rogue One will premiere as the first standalone film, 2017 will bring Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII, 2018 is reserved for Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s Han Solo standalone film, and 2019 is slated for Colin Trevorrow’s Episode IX.
The third standalone film planned for 2020 is in the very early phases of movie making, and only recently hired a writer for the film.
