U.S. Senator wants Disney investigated for abusing visa program to hire foreign tech employees

U.S. Senator Bill Nelson has put Disney under the microscope for the recent news of the company laying off technology employees and replacing them with foreign workers. Disney laid off 250 people in October and January from their technology departments. 120 of those employees found jobs in other departments in the company; 70 positions were added back after the department was restructured. The other remaining employees say they were told that in order to receive severance pay, they would have to train their replacements, many of whom said they just arrived in the United States from an outsourcing company based in India.

One employee who was laid off said, “We just dreaded going into work – we’re training our replacements. لعب روليت حقيقي I never imagined you could fly people in to physically take over your job, sit at your desk and take your keyboard, mouse and computer over, and that was condoned by our government.”

He’s referring to an H-1B visa program created by Congress in 1990 to “allow a limited number of high-tech workers to enter the United States to fill jobs with a shortage of American workers. The program is capped at 85,000 six-year visas per year, although exemptions are allowed for people working in universities.”

Senator Nelson says that Disney is abusing the program and “going beyond its original intent of filling jobs when there is a shortage of U.S. workers.” He is asking the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to look into the issue.

A Disney spokesperson said, “Disney has created almost 30,000 new jobs in the U. بيت365 S. over the past decade. External support firms are required to comply with all applicable employment laws. اربح
