Wiggles World slated for Six Flags address

The Republican - AGAWAM - Six Flags New England has announced it is creating Wiggles World, a children's ride and entertainment area with themes based on the popular entertainers, The Wiggles.

"Today's announcement represents Six Flags New England's continued focus on family entertainment," Six Flags New England President Larry Litton said of the area that will be added to the amusement park in the spring.

"The Wiggles are the most popular children's entertainers in the world," said Six Flags New England spokeswoman Melissa Pinkerton, of the Australian group. Wiggles World will be designed to make use of the group's recognition and status among children ages 2 to 6.

Since 1991, The Wiggles have performed for more than 1 million people a year. They have sold more than 22 million DVDs and videos and more than 5 million albums worldwide. Their television show has been broadcast on Disney Channel's Playhouse Disney since 2002.

The Wiggles themselves - Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Greg Page and Jeff Fatt - will perform at the park this spring.

In a telephone interview from New York City yesterday, Murray Cook, who wears the red outfit, said the group is amazed and excited that a Wiggles World will open here and at two other Six Flags parks.

"It was exciting enough to have a Wiggles World in Australia," he said. "When we heard about Six Flags here, it's such a big thing."

The Wiggles visits to the Six Flags for Wiggles World events this spring will be their first visit to any Six Flags park. When they are in the United States, they are always too busy working, Cook said.

Wiggles World, the park's second area devoted exclusively to children, will feature specially-themed rides and attractions including The Big Red Car ride, The Big Red Plane ride, Dorothy's Rosy Tea Cups, Wags Doggie-Copters and the S.S. Feathersword Pirate Ship just to name a few, Pinkerton said.

The area will also include retail locations selling Wiggles merchandise and a restaurant, the Yummy Yummy Caf�.

Wiggles World will be populated by The Wiggles' cast of supporting characters: Dorothy the Dinosaur, Captain Feathersword, Wags the Dog and Henry the Octopus, who will pose for photos and perform in daily shows.

Wiggles Worlds are also opening in Six Flags in New Jersey and Chicago.

In June officials at Six Flags New England unveiled the Hall of Justice, an interactive facility where visitors can meet and interact with famous comic book heroes. The hall is located near the park's premier roller coaster, "Superman: Ride of Steel."
