We’re 11 days away from the new year, and we know there’s quite a few additions coming to Walt Disney World in 2025. With all of the other resort’s projects on the horizon, we’re looking at a few attraction closures and scheduled refurbishments happening this year. If you’re visiting Walt Disney World in January, there are seven attraction closures to keep in mind as you plan your park days!
Magic Kingdom
January 5th is your last day to enjoy the wildest ride in the wilderness! Beginning January 6th, Big Thunder Mountain will close for at least a year, reopening sometime in 2026 with some “extra magic”. Are we finally getting those explosion effects Disneyland’s has?!
The second Magic Kingdom attraction set for a more temporary closure is Astro Orbiter. Tomorrowland’s high-flying rockets are scheduled for a multi-month refurbishment beginning January 13, 2025, and reopening sometime in the summer.
And later in January, The Hall of Presidents in Liberty Square is set to close on January 20th with no reopening timeframe announced just yet.
EPCOT
Test Track has been closed for a few months now, and will remain closed through the month of January before the “3.0” reimagined version officially opens later this summer.
Over in the World Showcase, the Mexico Pavilion’s Gran Fiesta Tour will be closed for a two-month refurbishment beginning January 6th. For now, the boat ride is scheduled to reopen on March 15th.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Here comes the hard part… we’re saying a final goodbye to an Animal Kingdom attraction come January 12th. While we have all of 2025 to enjoy a few more trips back in time with DINOSAUR, TriceraTop Spin (along with Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama) will be no more in DinoLand U.S.A beginning January 13th.
Over in Asia, Kali River Rapids will close on January 6th. While there is no reopening date scheduled, water rides like this commonly close for maintenance during the winter months.
How’s that for your January trip? Disney’s Hollywood Studios is safe for now, as there are no scheduled refurbishments or closures just yet. Go enjoy Muppet*Vision and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster while you can!
