Autumn is one of my favorite seasons at Disney World. During this time of year, the spirits are lively, and the decor is marvelous. Each park also offers a different selection of Halloween-themed treats. Chloé Ferreira recently wrote an amazing article detailing all the snacks available this Halloween season, which I highly recommend you look through.
It is because of Chloé’s article that I knew exactly which sweets I should be looking for while at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and where to find them. Honestly, the article serves as a must-use foodie guide to make sure you don’t miss any of the limited-time snacks.

That said, I headed straight to the Africa section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom to find one of this year’s new treats. Upon walking up, I was greeted by Tamu Tamu Refreshments, an eatery and tap known for serving the Dole Whip. (One of the best Disney signature snacks ever.) However, that was not what I was searching for today.

The standing menu just out front was showing the selection of seasonal treats. It was then that I saw it- the mummy twist! It was so cute, and I knew I had to have it.

Tamu Tamu Refreshments is connected via seating to a few other notable eateries, which means there is plentiful seating nearby. It is also mostly shaded by beautiful flora as well as awnings and lovely set pieces.

I made sure to remember this before starting my wild goose chase. I eagerly hopped in line to secure my desired treat- and after a short wait, I was told they didn’t have any more mummy twists! I was devastated. I asked if any of the items on the seasonal menu were available, as I would settle for the new apple cider muffin if I had to, but no luck! I was told that Tamu Tamu Refreshments was completely sold out of all seasonal items.

It was at this time that I wished I were using Chloé’s fall food guide, because then I would have known all the places to acquire my mummy twist, but alas. I hadn’t thought to keep it open after securing my first destination.
Surely, the disappointment was radiating off of me, as the cast member quickly piped up to reassure me that Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery would have what I was looking for. I made my way over and found their menu.

Sure enough, the mummy twist was listed, but just a little harder to see! Now you know that if you, like me, can’t find the treats you seek, sometimes you just have to keep looking!

Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery is a smaller eatery, with an order kiosk out front and a pickup window directly behind that.

There is a small gathering place to wait for your order, and a condiments stand nearby. With the Mummy Twist in hand, I made my way back over to the shaded seating just next to Tamu Tamu Refreshments, which also has an entrance behind the stage just across from Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery.
After a short wait, my name was called, and I was thrilled by the delectable little treat waiting for me at the window. Just look at how cute this thing is!

I was able to sit in calm, ambient seating and enjoy my treat, and it was so worth it! While the icing might intimidate some, I found that it did not overpower the flavor at all. I am a huge fan of pain au chocolat and was dying to taste this as I knew it would be similar. While it does have a sweeter overall taste than a traditional pain au chocolat, it is still delicious if you enjoy that sort of thing. (Like I do!) It also has a rather enjoyable price point- being one of the less expensive offerings on the seasonal menu at $6.79.
My favor might be clouded by my bias for chocolate on all my sweets, but I would at least say with certainty that this dessert was definitely worth the hunt I went on to get it.
It may be a little silly, but I also think the little candy eyes were adorable. Certainly a fun treat for children of all ages, and easily shareable. I do hope they decide to keep this one around next year. What are your thoughts on it? Have you had the pleasure of trying it yet? Is there a different dessert that has won your favor? Let us know!
