You may have heard about Walt Disney World’s summer campaign called Cool Kid Summer, and we’re here today to share more details about the offerings available specifically at EPCOT. Before we get into all that, here’s a little refresher in case you haven’t heard of the campaign. Cool Kid Summer is bringing back the things that made visiting the Disney theme parks even more special when my (now adult) kids were small – things like random dance parties and free activities with Disney characters playing and dancing along. It’s those kinds of sporadic and spontaneous things that kids and parents live for. And the best part? There is Cool Kid Summer fun happening at all four major theme parks, plus select resort hotels!
Let’s be honest, it’s H-O-T in central Florida, especially in the summer months. The parks are crowded, and the lines for our favorite attractions can be long. Kids only have so much patience to give, and if parents don’t pay close attention to their mood, they could be moments away from the biggest meltdown without even realizing what’s about to happen. Anyone who is a parent knows that it’s no fun when your child is having a tantrum in public, regardless of the reason. Just the other day, as I was enjoying a baguette in France, I overheard a parent angrily asking their kid if they realized they were ruining the day for everyone by throwing a fit “for no reason.” It’s sad to hear that in the Most Magical Place on Earth, but it’s a reality you have to deal with when you’re in the middle of it, and there’s always a reason for it. The heat is exhausting for all of us, but Disney has found the perfect way to balance it out.
This summer, Goofy has taken over CommuniCore Hall in World Celebration. We’re talking about a huge air-conditioned space with a fun game-playing carpet and tons of open space. There is plenty of comfy seating lining the sides, meaning that we parents can have a break while our kids run around like maniacs – it’s absolutely the best. Not only does the DJ play fun tunes, but they also come down and interact with the kids and Goofy, making it fun for everyone.
The best part about it, in my opinion, is that Disney got the timing just perfect with this. People need to take several breaks a day from the heat when touring the theme parks, and providing this opportunity that allows guests to have fun interactions with a beloved Disney character is a remarkable way to catch a break from the Florida sunshine while not giving up an ounce of the fun.
While I was inside GoofyCore, the DJ asked if any of the kids had ever walked down a catwalk like a model. No one had, so they played a game where each child got to walk down the middle of the room strutting their stuff while everyone else danced and clapped. It was quite possibly the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Those kids were all full of smiles and having the best time. Goofy even got in there and helped escort the shy ones – it was precious!
