The sign says it all, but unfortunately, I will not be revving up my tastebuds for these new churros or cinnamon rolls anytime soon. Instead, I will be cruising on by Ice Cold Hydraulics… right past it… to far superior options at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
If there is a new snack at Walt Disney World, I always want to know about it! So it’s no surprise the DIS Unlimited team had to swoop in for a Disney Snack Attack. Ice Cold Hydraulics is a newly built walk-up snack location in the Grand Avenue area of Hollywood Studios. The theming matches a road-side auto shop established in “1989”; a nice nod to the year Hollywood Studios opened. The features of this location are Coca-Cola frozen slushies and Coca-Cola infused snacks. This Coca-Cola theming transfers to its outdoor seating area with vintage umbrella tables.
The most unique menu items here are the Candy Painted Cinnamon Rolls and Bouncin’ Mini Churros. You can also get popcorn, Mickey-shaped pretzels, mini churros with chocolate sauce, and Mickey Ice Cream Sandwiches/ Premium Bars. Another big feature is the Coke frozen slushies with the option to add Jack Daniel’s Whiskey, Bacardi Rum, or Stoli Vanilla Vodka.
First up, we had to try the Bouncin’ Mini Churros priced at $8.99 or one Disney Dining Plan Snack Credit. These savory churros are topped with Coca-Cola syrup, bourbon candied bacon, siracha aioli, and scallions. Our first impression was the both stale and soggy look of the churros. The group all agreed that while we loved all of these ingredients, the combination of them together was terrible. Additionally, the portion size was small and the churros were indeed soggy. I personally think the only way to redeem this snack is to revise or remove some of the ingredients. Or better yet, swap it out with another churro option. We all know Disneyland does specialty churros so well… bring it to Hollywood Studios!
We then added insult to injury and took the Candy Painted Cinnamon Rolls for a taste test drive. Priced at $8.99, these mini cinnamon rolls are topped with a Coca-Cola glaze and toasted pecans. The cinnamon rolls were incredibly dry and needed more of the Coca-Cola glaze aka syrup. Ryno felt even pre-packaged cinnamon rolls taste better than this version. Craig also added there was a burnt flavor maybe from the pecans. We all agreed this snack was not a good value and the container it was served in left us confused.
To wash it down, which we desperately needed, we tried the Coca-Cola frozen slushie with Stoli Vanilla Vodka. Most notably, the serving size was small for this $15 cocktail and we really couldn’t taste the vodka at all. With Baseline Tap House, directly across the street, the drinks are far better in taste and bang for your buck.
While creativity and new dining locations are always appreciated, Ice Cold Hydraulics could use a tune-up! Hopefully Disney will revamp the menu and in the meantime, only stop by if you’re looking for a tried and true Mickey bar or popcorn.
