The wife and I try to sample new things whenever we come back to Walt Disney World. I understand that sometimes a pizza just sounds good when you’re hungry, tired, and ready to trek back to your room and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that (if you want to spend two dining credits on it, go right ahead). If we find a food item we like, usually the key component for us on a return visit is the consistency of the preparation (and if still tastes how we remembered). One dish that never lets us down is the “Create-Your-Own-Pasta” at Port Orleans Riverside’s Riverside Mill Food Court.



Hands down, this has to be the biggest bang for your buck on property. It’s $11.99, prepared right in front of your eyes, and comes with a bread stick on top. You have your choice of penne or fettuccine, shrimp or chicken, and red sauce or alfredo. There are side toppings you select to get things started: fresh spinach, broccoli, artichokes, mushrooms, red peppers, onions, garlic, black olives, peas, and Parmesan cheese. The shrimp has a smokey, Creole flavor that dances with the alfredo’s Italian spices on your tongue like a forgotten French waltz. The mushrooms and spinach blends nicely to remind you of a perfect omelet consumed long ago. The dish is always hot when you get it; the penne or fettuccine is always soft-never al dente. The portions are large and barely fit in the black, plastic bowl it is served in (there are clear lids available if you can’t finish and need a take out carrier). Don’t be afraid to sop up your remaining alfredo with your bread stick either. That’s a treat as well; and it pairs great with any type of slightly bitter beer, like an IPA, but your closest bet with what the Riverside Mill has available in the cooler would be a 16 oz. can of Yuengling for $7.99.

The atmosphere of the dining areas vary to some degree, but all are encapsulated under one roof. There is a TV in the corner of a section across from the restrooms for children to watch as the adults eat. In another seating area there are large gears turning from the paddle wheel outside. You can hear Bob “Yehaa” Jackson at a soft volume if you are seated close to the hallway, near the wonderful dessert station. What’s great about Riverside is that you can ride a water taxi (take the yellow flag boat from the Marketplace dock) there and back to Disney Springs. So after your meal, you can easily find your way back if you’re staying at a different resort. But remember, if you’re staying at either Riverside or French Quarter, you have access to any of their pools (bonus!).

This dining experience is a 9.5 out of 10. With multiple visits under our belt, I can rate this with confidence. The only marks against it being: the location is not in a park, the salty olives, a usually long line, the recent $1.00 price increase, and the small, narrow “counter” in which they must awkwardly push the food towards you at the end of the line (for you to transfer to your tray). So, don’t let the location get you down, just include it in your plans if you intend on going to Disney Springs. It’s definitely cheaper than The BOATHOUSE and you don’t need a reservation.
