Arrival day is a special day in our family! We look forward to our Disney vacations, planning and spending countless hours making each detail just so. One tradition we stick to for our trips is we do not go to a park on arrival day. Instead, we prefer to check out the pool at our resort and plan a nice dinner (typically a character meal). On our last trip, I decided to break from the character dining tradition for arrival day and instead chose to “see where the day went.” I made no reservations and figured we could take it easy and see what was available that day. Secretly, in the back of my mind, I knew I wanted to head over to Disney’s Beach Club Resort and try out the Beaches and Cream To-Go window.
You see, while the menu at Beaches and Cream looks completely fine, it’s nothing we were dying to try. The ice cream, however, was a total winner for us. This venture to the Beach Club Resort was truly one of my trip’s highlights, and it was all thanks to this show-stopping ice cream.
Having never taken the Skyliner, we were excited to board these air gondolas and venture over to the Epcot area. From there, we walked to the Beach Club. What I remember most was it was a perfectly clear night, and the sun was setting beautifully over the lake. We walked right up to the window with no wait and were able to order any of the ice creams off the menu. Since it was arrival day and I felt generous, I allowed each kid to get their own over-the-top concoction, both settling for a milkshake topped with various cakes and frosting. Best of all, the shakes were served in souvenir cups which we still use at home daily! My husband and I shared the No Way Jose, which they covered in a Mickey whipped cream concoction.
What made this experience so magical can be defined by the simplicity of the moment. We weren’t rushing to the next ride or eagerly waiting for a character to come to our table. Instead, we were sitting outside together on a beautiful evening, enjoying out-of-this-world ice cream. When we were all stuffed to the gills, we walked back to the Skyliner and took in the fantastic views of Epcot and various Disney resorts at night.
If you find yourself with a free evening, I cannot suggest this little hidden gem highly enough. While many people know about Beaches and Cream, not as many know that you can get the ice cream without a dining reservation, and that information needs to be shared! Check it out on your next Walt Disney World trip.
