Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is getting ready for its biggest room refurbishment since the resort opened more than a decade ago.
Beginning in mid-June 2027, guest rooms throughout Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will undergo a phased refurbishment lasting through October 2028. Rather than tackling the entire resort at once, Disney will work through one themed area at a time, allowing the remaining sections to continue welcoming guests throughout the project.
Art of Animation is divided into four distinct areas themed to Finding Nemo, Cars, The Lion King, and The Little Mermaid. The first three feature the resort’s popular family suites, while The Little Mermaid section offers standard guest rooms.
Changes Coming to Art of Animation Rooms
Updates are planned for both the family suites and The Little Mermaid rooms. While the look of the rooms will maintain their animation quality, one of the bigger changes will be the addition of pull-down Murphy beds in the standard rooms, similar to those that have become increasingly common across Walt Disney World resorts. The design allows the same space to function as a table during the day before converting into a second bed when needed.

Guests staying at Art of Animation during the refurbishment may see or hear construction and maintenance work during daytime hours. Alternate walking routes may also be necessary around whichever section is being worked on at the time.
Art of Animation’s Biggest Refurbishment Yet
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort originally opened in 2012, making this the most substantial refurbishment the resort has received since its debut.
There have been smaller projects along the way. Guest room carpeting was replaced with laminate flooring between 2019 and 2021, and the resort lobby has received flooring updates, but nothing on the scale of this upcoming project.
