Don’t Leave Your Stroller Outside Your Disney Resort Room

One of the lesser-known pieces of Disney vacation advice has nothing to do with Lightning Lanes or rope dropping your favorite attraction. It is much simpler: don’t leave your stroller outside your Disney resort room.

While this isn’t a common sight, it also isn’t unheard of. On almost every trip, I notice at least one or two strollers parked outside guest rooms. Sometimes they are inexpensive umbrella strollers, but other times they are full-size models that cost hundreds, if not over a thousand dollars. Unfortunately, leaving a stroller outside your room comes with more risk today than it did just a few years ago.

The reason is the growing popularity of “pixie dusting” within the Disney community. For many Disney fans, pixie dusting means leaving behind items they no longer need for another family to enjoy instead of throwing them away. Guests regularly leave unopened cases of water, snacks, ponchos, toys, and even strollers. There are now entire Facebook groups dedicated to helping guests locate these items and continue the tradition of spreading a little extra magic.

At its best, pixie dusting is one of the most heartwarming examples of Disney generosity. Families can save money, useful items avoid ending up in the trash, and a simple act of kindness can make another guest’s vacation a little easier. However, the popularity of the practice has also created an unintended problem.

A stroller sitting outside a hotel room can easily be mistaken for an item that has been intentionally left behind. In some cases, someone may genuinely believe it is being given away. In others, a person with bad intentions could simply claim they thought it was part of a pixie dust situation.

Should people automatically assume a stroller has been pixie-dusted? Absolutely not. But leaving a stroller that may be worth $300, $500, or even more than $1,000 outside your room and trusting that every single person walking by will make the right assumption is a risk I personally wouldn’t take.

Recently, a family staying at Disney’s Pop Century Resort shared that this exact situation happened to them. Their stroller was left outside their room and disappeared. Whether it was intentionally stolen or mistakenly taken as pixie dust, the outcome was the same: their stroller was gone.

The solution is simple. Unless you are intentionally giving your stroller away, bring it inside your room, even if it makes the space feel a little more crowded. If you plan to pixie-dust a stroller or any other item, consider leaving a note or posting in one of the Disney Facebook groups so there is no confusion.

Pixie dusting remains one of the most thoughtful traditions in the Disney community, but it has also changed the way unattended items are perceived. So please use your own best practices because if stolen items due to pixie dust confusion becomes a trend, I won’t be surprised if Disney just shuts it down completely.
