It’s that magical time of year where one day you can be enjoying Halloween and then just a few days later, Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World is decorated for Christmas.
The holiday decorations on Main Street signal the start of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (MVMCP). So is buying a ticket to the party a good idea? Is there value in purchasing this separate ticket to Magic Kingdom?
Let’s start at the beginning- the cost of a ticket varies. If you purchase the ticket the same day you would like to go to the party it will be $79.00 plus tax for adults, and $74.00 plus tax for children 3-9. There are discounts for Disney Vacation Club and Annual Passholders, as well as for buying your ticket in advance. If you aren’t purchasing a multi-day theme park ticket, this is cheaper than buying a one day Magic Kingdom ticket. Even though Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party doesn’t officially begin until 7:00 p.m., ticket holders can enter the park starting at 4:00 pm with their MVMCP ticket. Once the ticket is swiped, you’re issued a wristband. (If you’re already in the park, you can go back to the main entrance to have your ticket processed or look for the ticket stations that will be set up within the Magic Kingdom.) The rides are pretty much a walk on and you will not see the waits you normally see for attractions during the day.
Once you are in Magic Kingdom, be sure you pick up the map that has all the times and details for the party. If you are feeling hungry, check out the times the quick service locations are serving, because they’re not always open the whole night. If you are in the mood for some hot chocolate and cookies (apple juice and sliced apples are also available) be sure to stop by the locations on the map. They do have other items for allergy and other lifestyle friendly treats. If you are unsure about the offerings be sure to ask a Cast Member.
Be sure to take advantage of the lower crowds for fireworks and parade viewing. A Frozen Holiday Wish and Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade are performed twice during the evening. The second time the crowds will be much lower than the first show.
If you are a fan of the Disney Christmas shows and dance parties be sure to visit them all. This year WDW has a fantastic a cappella group, VoicePlay, performing 4 shows nightly on the Rockettower Plaza Stage. For me I was struggling to come up with ways the party is a value until I saw VoicePlay perform. It was like attending one of their concerts and it was included in the price of my party ticket. I am going back to the party this week and I will be watching all 4 shows!
Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade is a do not miss. I love seeing the Toy Soldiers every year marching down Main Street. I do think they could change the parade up every few years though.
So should you buy a ticket to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party? Yes!! It is a great place to create some new family memories, ride the attractions, see it “snow” on Main Street, and see some great shows.
‘Til next time, See you in the parks!
