There once was a time when Walt Disney World had a carefree feel to it. Sure, you had to do all the planning, which can be stressful enough, and, of course, manage your budget. However, once you arrived, Disney had everything covered. From your free Disney Dining Plan (if you were lucky enough to score one) to your free transport, Disney had every facet of your vacation life covered. Most resorts had multiple transportation options, leaving guests only to decide how they preferred to travel and enjoy the ride. However, my last few trips to Walt Disney World have left me more frustrated in getting to my destination than any other part of my day.
Disney transport seems to have changed, and I can’t say I am entirely sure why. Perhaps crowd dynamics have shifted without the capacity to support the changing times that the majority of guests want to get to and from the parks, or maybe there are simply fewer services than it seemed in the earlier days. In any case, I find myself waiting longer to access Disney’s road transportation option.
Depending on where I stay, my preference changes. In earlier years, we would always opt for a boat or ferry ride simply because they were a quick and enjoyable way to reach our destination. Now, there are not many times when I won’t opt to skip the crowds and walk wherever possible without starting my day in the longest line of all. Only a few weeks ago, I saw a few off-putting photos of the Disney Skyliner with a queue so long that the front wasn’t even remotely visible. I was surprised at the number of commenters who said they had given up using Disney transport and preferred to pay for Minnie Vans or external services to get from A to B.
After that long-winded introduction, here comes this week’s Disney Debate topic for you to mull over. Is Disney transport making park life harder? It’s the service that is supposed to make our lives easier, a Walt Disney World perk that replaces the need for a vehicle and allows an all-inclusive resort experience, but does it deliver? In discussions with friends, more answered that they had gone back to renting a vehicle and driving or paying for a car service to avoid the stress and time related to the current state of the transport system. Could the solution be as simple as an increase in services? Let me know what you think. How do you rate Disney’s transport in Walt Disney World?
